Transylvania offers wide opportunities for relaxing, and it is well known also about its thermal waters, lakes and wellness treatments.

The most important and known cities are popular about their spa therapy.


1. Baile Felix (hungarian: Félixfürdő):
It is a thermal spa resort in Bihor County, Transylvania. It is located about 22 km far from Orodea and about 8 km from the hungarian board, Bors. Together with 1 Mai are among the best known and most quality thermal spas in the country. The resorts has many mineral springs with thermal (20-48°C): sodic, calcic, sulphuric, rich in bicarbonate waters known since the beginning of the millennium. The facilities and treatments what they offer are the followings:
- treatment of rheumatism and neurological and gynecological diseases
- various facilities for procedures involving electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, aerosols, massage, paraffin packing and other water treatments

2. Buziaş (hungarian: Búziásfürdő):
It is located in Timis County, Transylvania. Here you can find an old health spa which established in 1819 and has been declared as spa in 1839. The mineral waters of the city are getting possibilities to cure a wide range of diseases. Buziaş spa is special with its 20 ha park and with building in Turkish-Byzantine style. The mineral waters of the resort you can buy also in bottles, for common use.

3. Băile Herculane (hungarian: Herkulesfürdő):
It is located in Caraş-Severin County, about 17 km from Orsova. The city is known long time ago about its mineral waters. The name of it comes from ancient period when the people thoght that the mineral waters are depending from Hercules. According to the legend, Hercules stopped here to take a bath and relax. The people built here also temple for the hero who was also the god of warm spring-waters. The hot springs of Băile Herculane content the following minerals: sulfur, chlorine, sodium, calcium, magnesium and other minerals.

4. Covasna (hungarian: Kovászna):
It is located in Covasna county, Transylvania. It lies at 550-600 meters altitude. It is famous its mineral waters and knows also as „the town of 1000 mineral springs”. The name of the city is coming from the slavic word „kvasni” which means sour water. In each mineral waters of Covasna there are mixed minerals: chiefly carbon dioxide, sulfur, and ammonia.

5. Băile Tusnad (hungarian: Tusnádfürdő):
It is located in Harghita County, about 32 km from Miercuera Ciuc. The least city of Romania, which is an important site of cultural importance for the Székely people, is famous for spas and 7 mineral springs. Nearby is the famous volcanic crater lake, the only one of its kind in Romania, called Lake Sfânta Ana (Saint Anne Lake).

6. Borsec (hungarian: Borszék):
It is located in Harghita County, about 220 km from Brasov and 130 km far from Târgu-Mureş. It is well-known about its spas and mineral water what we can find also in the surrounding area not just in Borsec city. It is offering natural cures (the microclimate, the air cure, the place cure, the watering cure and healing waters). The physiotherapeutic procedures are reputedly able to heal or ameliorate nutrition or metabolism illnesses.

7. Seiche (hungarian: Szejkefürdő):
It is located in Harghita County, about 4 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc. Well known about its mineral water which grey colours reminiscent of the sea.

8. Sovata and Praid (hungarian: Szováta and Parajd):
Sovata is located in Mureş County, in the territory of Salt Land. It became increasingly popular its warm-water, salty lakes (Nut Lake, Black Lake, Red Lake and Green Lake). Therapeutic effects of Sovata: chronic gynecological symptoms, severe rheumatic pains, peripheral nervous system and post-accidental motor diseases. Praid which is 7 km far from Sovata is important for the salt mine microclimate. It is located in Harghita County.

9. Băile Bálványos (hungarian: Bálványosfürdő):
It is located in Covasna County. It is known as a spa city which does not have resident population. There are several pools with mineral water. There are many mineral spring with differect contains sulphur, carbon dioxide springs and also other minerals.
